What a Racket

For many years audiences around the world have been watching Andy Murray win Grand Slams and Olympics.

From a young age he was destined for the top, won his very first tournament as Under 10 junior at his hometown Dunblane Club, a junior major at the US Open, turning pro in 2005.

He won the U.S Open in 2012, Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, also a member of the victorious GB Davis Cup squad in 2015, then in 2016 as a Olympic singles champion.

However that's a distant memory from the first slam of 2024 at the Australian Open with a first round exit to 30th Seed ArgentineTomas Martin Etcheverry ,age 24, in 6-4 6-2 6-2.

This comes after difficult season last year ,there was a lot of emotion during his matches, he's far from his best performance in recent months ,with four consecutive defeats, total of eight defeats.

Five years ago, in Melbourne Murray said he thought of retiring later that year because of the impending hip surgery, but later in season 2019 he did return and won the APT title in Antwerp a few months later.

Over the seasons he produced a host of good performance and broken back into the world top 40.Murray said " I'll stop playing when I'm no longer enjoying it, not made any definite decisions on that. He went on to said "my network of family and friends are very aware of how I feel, where i would like to finish playing , when that might be"

Such a  decision for any athlete in any sport must be difficult to take but we all know that he's a great ambassador for tennis and for Scottish sport overall. I hope to see him play at least another Wimbledon, whatever happens, like Fred Perry, he will go down in sporting history.
